The Greater Manchester Liberian Community (GM-LIBCOM) has announced a significant update to its welfare contribution process following a consultative meeting with representatives of three of its founding organisations—the Koukaipai Women Organisation, Manchester Mandingo Community, and Manchester Men Community.
During the meeting, the representatives unanimously agreed that financial welfare contributions relating to bereavements and other welfare matters should remain the responsibility of the respective founding organisation to which the affected member belongs. The representatives explained that each organisation already operates an established welfare policy and support system designed to meet the needs of its members during bereavements and other welfare-related situations.
The meeting also recommended that GM-LIBCOM continue to demonstrate its commitment to members by providing moral and social support, including phone calls, visitations, and other appropriate expressions of solidarity, while leaving financial welfare contributions to the respective founding organisations.
Following these recommendations, the GM-LIBCOM Leadership, in consultation with the Welfare Committee, resolved to implement the unanimous decision of the representatives. The leadership noted that any future review or proposed amendment to this welfare arrangement will be referred to the Board for further consideration and guidance.
As a result of this decision, all GM-LIBCOM financial welfare contributions have been suspended with immediate effect until further notice.
The Leadership further announced that all monies recently collected for welfare purposes will be refunded in full. It was emphasized that, since the funds were contributed solely for welfare activities, it would not be appropriate to redirect them to any other purpose without the consent of those who made the contributions.
The reimbursement process will begin immediately, and in the interest of transparency and accountability, a complete record of all refunds will be shared with the membership upon completion of the exercise.
The Leadership expressed its sincere appreciation to every member who generously contributed in support of fellow community members. It acknowledged that the willingness of members to give reflects the compassion, unity, and shared responsibility that continue to strengthen the Greater Manchester Liberian Community.
GM-LIBCOM reaffirmed its commitment to promoting unity, transparency, and accountability while continuing to serve the best interests of the Liberian community in Greater Manchester.
