Sheffield Set to Host Liberia’s 179th Independence Celebration

Liberians from across the United Kingdom are preparing to converge on Sheffield for the celebration of Liberia’s 179th Independence Anniversary, a three-day event hosted by the Liberian Organisations of Sheffield (LOS) in collaboration with the Union of Liberian Organisations in the United Kingdom (ULOUK).

Running from Friday, July 24 to Sunday, July 26, 2026, the celebration promises a memorable weekend of patriotism, cultural heritage, fellowship, entertainment, and family fun.

The programme will officially commence on Friday evening with the Official Independence Programme at Calvary Community Hall, Sheffield. On Saturday, attention shifts to Concord Park, where families and friends will gather for outdoor activities before returning to the Calvary Community Hall later that evening for the highly anticipated Independence Ball. The festivities will conclude on Sunday with a Thanksgiving Service, followed by a Farewell Barbecue at Concord Park.

This year’s celebration is expected to attract hundreds of Liberians from across the UK and will feature an exciting lineup of performers and entertainers. Among the headline acts is veteran Liberian artist Kpanto, widely known for his popular hit “We Outside Tonight, We Na Going Home.” He will be joined by Alphason, Minister Trokon Lomandee Cephas, Minister Choko Wreyou, and several other talented Liberian artists, promising a weekend of exceptional music and entertainment.

Beyond the entertainment, the event provides an opportunity for Liberians from different communities and organisations to reconnect, celebrate their shared heritage, strengthen friendships, and promote unity within the diaspora.

The Greater Manchester Liberian Community (GM-LIBCOM) is proud to support this national celebration and looks forward to seeing its members join fellow Liberians from across the country in Sheffield. As Liberia marks 179 years of independence, the occasion serves as a reminder of the resilience, unity, and enduring spirit of the Liberian people.

GM-LIBCOM wishes the organisers a successful celebration and extends warm Independence Day greetings to Liberians at home and throughout the diaspora. Together, let us celebrate our nation’s history, honour our heritage, and continue building a stronger and more united Liberian community.
